Project by Ashley Cannon Newell for Papertrey Ink - March 2016 - #AshleyCannonNewell #PaperSuite #PapertreyInk - Frosted Borders + Big Birthday Candles

Frosted Borders is a new set of dies designed by Erin Lincoln that are perfect for creating detailed icing designs on a card to make it look like a cake. The dies are essentially borders and can be used for all sorts of ideas on cards.

For my card, I decided to make a mini tall birthday card for a two-year old.

I die cut the floral frosted borders from different cardstocks then added them to the card front.

When working with Frosted Borders dies, I recommend separating the dies. They die cut better separately than together.

Next, I added the new Big Birthday Candles die cut to the top of the card. Big Birthday Candles are dies also designed by Erin Lincoln and reminds me of those huge numbered dies I grew up with each and every birthday celebration. I die cut it three times from different patterns and cardstocks, then nested them together.

To keep the dies together, I added transparent tape to the backside of the die cut.

Project by Ashley Cannon Newell for Papertrey Ink - March 2016 - #AshleyCannonNewell #PaperSuite #PapertreyInk - Sprinkles On Top + Mat Stack 7

This card features Sprinkles On Top, a new stamp and die collection designed by Erin Lincoln. She’s on a roll with this whole birthday and celebration thing, isn’t she?!

I wanted a card full of sprinkles…literally everywhere. The amount of sprinkles that causes the belly ache!

So, I started stamping each layer on my cardstock in different ink hues. Then, I started coloring them in with my Copic markers.

The coloring process was time consuming, but gratifying at the same time. You’d think I was actually enjoying sprinkles in real life.

Anyway, to finish the card, I added a focal point and sentiment from Mat Stack 7 along with a strip of Pure Poppy cardstock. The card reminds me of a bubble gum machine or maybe just sprinkles patterned paper!

Project by Ashley Cannon Newell for Papertrey Ink - March 2016 - #AshleyCannonNewell #PaperSuite #PapertreyInk - Just Desserts

Just Desserts and Just Desserts Sentiments are new stamp and die collections designed by Lizzie Jones. They’re everything a cake lover dreamed of and more! I think the previously released Cake Stand dies pair perfectly with the cakes. They’re a little smaller, but look great when sandwiched with embellishments.

The sentiments are perfect in these stamp sets.

And do I dare mention the strawberries? O M G! I can just take this strawberry shortcake, can’t you?

Project by Ashley Cannon Newell for Papertrey Ink - March 2016 - #AshleyCannonNewell #PaperSuite #PapertreyInk - Just Desserts

This card reminds me of the 1950’s era with that country flair of the gingham patterned paper. This sentiment is from Just Desserts Sentiments.

To get the red dots on the cake stand die cut, I colored the cake stand underneath red using a Copic marker. I added some grosgrain ribbon to divide the patterned paper border from the white cardstock.
