Scrap It Saturday :: Mexico

Remember Scrap It Saturday? Well, this Saturday it’s back! I’ve been working on this layout for the past three days in between other projects.  I decided to scrap a few photos from our vacation last month. All of the photos were taken with our iPhone 4! Can you believe that? We barely took any pictures with our Canon xTi (our travel camera). The purpose of this vacation was to celebrate my birthday and relax. We usually alternate our vacations so that some are tour-driven and others are laid back. We did get a bit adventurous in Mexico on a couple of excursions, but for the most part it was laid back without any agendas, just beach, drinks, and food! So this layout captures the purpose of our vacation.

The overall concept was to created a focal point with patterned paper.  I added tiny strips of patterned paper from a Studio Calico kit. On some ends of the patterned paper, I snipped an angle out, but for the most part just kept the strips. The photos were added and I thought they got a bit lost with those patterns, but just said “oh well!”

Here, I added a half doily and some flower die cuts. The flowers are die cut from coaster board and stamped, then embellished with buttons.

I added a bit of a personal touch by handwriting the journaling – the purpose of the vacation. A simple reminder. I also stamped and cut half a label and added a die cut button embellishment. To finish it off, I added stitching.

I die cut some patterned paper banners and stamped the bow. I embellished the banner with some black buttons. A festive little corner!

With the other half of the label, I added it to the top, along with the stitching. I switched it up this time by adding the date of our vacation. I finished this corner off with die cut buttons.

For the title, I know “mexico” had to be the feature, so I added the Thickers over the other half doily.

I hope you all have a great weekend! Enjoy yourselves!

This is so so cute!!! Love the photos too — with the iPhone!! My XTi died. GRRR!!! I keep forgetting to take it with me when I go out to see if it’s fixable. I love that thing, it’s my travel camera too cause it’s so light (and at this point, cheap). I think it’s just reached its lifetime. It was my first dSLR! Emma was 2? I can’t remember what the shutter life for the XTi is but I still hope it’s revivable :)
